Progressive Rock Vol.2

11- 02 - 2007 Live House SANCTUARY

ARS NOVA participated at the festival, called '-PROGRESSIVE ROCK ALL STARS vol.2 -, that was organized by Sanctuary on Sunday 11 of February. The opening act was 'MAGDALENA' from Osaka. Megu, their female singer sang romantic lyrics with her beautiful voice on MAGDALENA'S melodious music. They were greatI

Keyboard: Keiko Kumagai

Bass: Shinko"Panky"Shibata

After the show of MAGDALENA, ARS NOVA appeared on the stage.
Their play was heavy and rapid,
so their show was in striking contrast with MAGDALENA's.
Every time they change the members, their original songs change a little bit
because of the new members and in this way their music can give
people newer impressions. The present line-up has rather prog-metal style
than their female trio line-up's progressive rock.

Guitar: Satoshi Handa

Drums: Hazime

The first song was Morgan that was played first time
with guitarist Satoshi and the newest drummer, Hazime.
Morgan also had different impressions with this newest line-up.

Some arrangements were put on the song with heavy guitar, taking charge of some keyboard solos. Panky's bass had various sounds and was heavier than former ARS NOVA's. Hazime played complex rhythms but sometimes he played delicately. Seems he knows what is the best way for play Morgan. The contrast of heavy parts and quiet parts were so impressive. Suddenly there was an accident while they were playing Morgan: Keiko's keyboard on the top position almost slipped downI But she could play the song till the end.

The next song was 'The 42 GODS'. Till the first half Panky played effected bass like crawling along the floor, and Satoshi's guitar had oriental moods in the middle of the song.

After the song Keiko talked to audience, 'Happy Valentine! BTW, How did you like 'new' Morgan?' The audience responded with applause and a shout of joy. That week was Valentine's week, so Keiko's Valentine card and chocolate from her were passed out to the audience before the show.

Tthey played 'Horla Rising' next. Keiko played easily those difficult parts and her play was outstanding among all members.

Next song was their new one, 'Lake of Tears'. It's a sad song but it was beautiful.. Satoshi's first guitar solo is just like crying with sadness. He played much better than their last time gig. It seems the guitar parts of Lake of Tears developed much more than other songs.

Then Keiko talked to the audience again. 'Next we'll play a series of dark songs'. The songs were really dark and heavy as she said. 'Metamorphosis' is the song that impressed at introduction by hihat rhythm and weird synth voice.. According to Metamorphosis story from Biogenesis album, that is the process of the heroine's metamorphosis into a monster due to abnormal cell of transplant operation by a mad scientist.. The song started with omnious air as the image of the story.

'Kali' was much heavier than it was originally recorded on the Goddess of Darkeness CD. It was truely fit for the name of the title, meaning 'Goddess of Destruction'. While Satoshi was playingthe song he has been moving across the stage and Hazime frequently standed up while playing. Seemed they performed intentionaly to show their passion energy to audience.

Then Keiko introduced the members of the present line-up and talked about their renewed website.

The last song was 'NOVA'. Some poeple from the audience enjoyed with head-banging at the introduction of bass. Keiko had a good command of various sounds as well and played complexed riffs and melody at the same time well. They played the song with their full power. The audience let out a big cheer when they finished to play NOVA. Keiko responeded to audience, 'Thank you allI' with a smile.

Applause for encore all around the place and They appeared on the stage again and they played 'Succubus' as the real last song of the show. The song had rather faster tempo than before and they played that very heavily.Keiko and Satoshi played an unison and they were perfect and cool together! There were also an air of fantasy about the middle part. Till the end of the song they played with tensely
and they put their full energy in the last minutes of the gig.
A storm of applause arose when they finished to play.

The show had a great success. I (Kaori) think that their performance with the present line-up will gettin' better and better from time to time when play live.

I except much from their upcoming album and next gigI
